The community is an integral part of the education of a child. We ascribe to the philosophy that it truly "takes a village to raise a child". Having strong community partnerships is essential to our school district's success, and we too want to be a good partner with our local partners in order to move our entire county forward.

Within our local school district, we have been given the opportunity to work with Berea College on a grant program. The grant program is called “Gear Up Opportunity”. Currently, the staff members that work within this grant serve the 8th grade student body at Clay County Middle School and the 9th grade student body at Clay County High School. We have two College and Career Navigators, Amy Sims at CCHS and Leslie Davis at CCMS. Also, there are two Academic Interventionist, Natosha Hacker at CCHS and Madison Reed at CCMS. The goal of the grant program is to increase the number of students who are prepared for success in education after high school. In order to meet that goal, staff members are working with students on their academic performances, increasing the high school graduation rate, increasing access that students have to STEM coursework, and to foster the knowledge and skill development that prepares students to be informed, thoughtful, and productive individuals and citizens. The Gear Up team works closely with classroom teachers and school administration. The Gear Up program is set to follow the current 8th and 9th grade student body until they graduate from high school. Have a student currently in 8th or 9th grade? Take time to get to know your Gear Up staff. They are eager to serve your student!
